Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC)

AFMCThe Association of Faculties of Medicine (AFMC) represents sixteen medical schools, and provides the national voice for academic medicine in Canada. The mission of ACMC is to contribute to improving the health of all Canadians through medical education and biomedical and health research.

 

American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC)

AAMCThe mission of the Association of American Medical Colleges is to improve the health of the public by enhancing the effectiveness of academic medicine. The AAMC pursues its mission by assisting academic medicine's institutions, organizations and individuals in carrying out their responsibilities for educating the physician and medical scientist workforce; discovering new medical knowledge; developing innovative technologies for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease; and providing health care services in academic settings.

 

Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons

RCPSCThe Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is a national, private organization established by a Special Act of Parliament in 1929. Its purpose is to advance the standards of postgraduate medical education and practice in the medical, laboratory and surgical specialties and to provide the means for identifying, both within the medical profession and to the public, that those who hold themselves out to be specialists in a particular field are properly trained and qualified.

 

College of Family Physicians of Canada

College of Family PhysiciansFounded in June, 1954, the College of Family Physicians of Canada is the national medical association that supports family physicians in providing high quality health care to their patients. The goal of promoting high quality health care is achieved by encouraging and supporting high standards of medical education at all levels and by developing a wide range of programs and services in continuing physician education. The College plays a key role in maintaining the reputation of excellence of family medicine training at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in all 16 Canadian medical schools. The College evaluates and regularly accredits the family medicine residency training programs.

 

Health Canada

Health CanadaHealth Canada is the federal department responsible for helping the people of Canada maintain and improve their health. In partnership with provincial and territorial governments, Health Canada provides national leadership to develop health policy, enforce health regulations, promote disease prevention and enhance healthy living for all Canadians. Health Canada ensures that health services are available and accessible to First Nations and Inuit communities. It also works closely with other federal departments, agencies and health stakeholders to reduce health and safety risks to Canadians.

 

Medical Council of Canada

Medical Council of CanadaThe Medical Council of Canada (MCC) was established in 1912 by authority of Parliament through the Canada Medical Act, with the goal of establishing and promoting a qualification in medicine, known as the Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada, such that the holders thereof are acceptable to the provincial medical licensing authorities for the issuance of a license to practice medicine.
